BIENNAL

Studio LWA has created a typeface called Biennal, inspired by the shape of the famous Didot typeface - an extremely popular font family under and since the French revolution. In this new binary composition where two lines form an elegant framework, each line represents a single year, while paired together they add up and become a symbol of the concept of biennale. The festive and special dimension of a biennale event is graphically reinforced by the curves of the serif. Upstrokes and downstrokes represent the significant part played by creativity in the success of these major cultural events taking place every other year.  Used for the titles of events in marketing material such as posters, press releases, magazines, the Biennal typeface brings together letterpress heritage and contemporary graphic design.
