'Icônes' by Cartier brings together two legendary collections designed by the prestigious maison.  The timeless gracefulness of Trinity and the stylish elegance of Love have merged into a unique visual identity. Cocteau suggested the idea of a saturn-like ring to his friend Louis Cartier. Famous couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton decided to each wear a bracelet that needed a screwdriver to be fastened and unfastened. The luminous title of the collection was designed to represent the history of these two disctinctive pieces of jewellery, characterised by the convolution of three types of gold and the graphic representation of a screw. The design of the typeface is both classic, similar in this sense to the Trinity collection, and mechanical-looking like the Love collection. In the 3D animation film, the letters' slender outlines gradually come to light under the spinning movement of the precious pieces of jewellery. The amazingly realistic computer modeling of the two pieces exemplifies the savoir-faire of the luxury maison. The two pieces of jewellery may be looked upon as true icons themselves ; Roland Barthes's comment inevitably springs to mind :'Objects may well turn into words, provided they are meaningful.'
