MAPPLETHORPE EXHIBITION

The sud-est gallery of the Grand Palais is exhibiting 250 works by art photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The exhibition organised by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux- Grand Palais reveals the classic dimension of  the artist's work as well as his quest for aesthetic perfection. A selfportrait taken in 1968 has been used in a number of advertising resources promoting the event. Enhanced by the refined design of the typeface, the sleek and graphic black and white composition is typical of the artist's approach to his work - Mapplethorpe saw himself as a 'picture creator'. The graphics resonate with the photographer's concern for the complex issue of body and sex, a question he would never cease to explore throughout his career.
