ATLAS

The annual Antiquarian Book and Fine Print Fair of Paris remains a remarkable cultural event because of the unrivalled diversity of its exhibits on show. For the 27th edition of the Salon, Studio LWA pays tribute to the gigantic ephemeral bookshop held under the vaulted glass roof of the Grand Palais : designed by the creative team of the agency, an art installation based on the Greek myth of Atlas the Titan will be exhibited at the heart of the Grand Palais. Condemmed by Zeus to stand and hold The Heavens forever, Atlas the Titan was an inspiration for 15th century geographer Mercator, who produced terrestrial maps and paintings based on the myth. Who could have dreamt of a more adequate allegory for this Fair ? Studio LWA created an ultra modern sculpture in honeycomb recycled cardboard featuring modules in the shape of books and paper, piled up as if to reach the celestial roof of the Grand Palais.
