JUSTICE

The library of the Barreau de Paris (the Paris State Bar) presented its collection to the public in 2012 at the International Antiquarian Book Fair. In a tribute to the bar, Studio LWA created an art installation entitled Justice, in which large wooden letters piled up in the nave of the Grand Palais seemed to defy gravity. The installation transformed the horizontal scales - a symbol of legal justice in France-, into a perfectly inverted balance. This representation of the national emblem suggests that if justice may seem precarious at times, on the verge of collapse, yet it remains immutable, part and parcel of our society throughout history. In other words, a both eternal and unstable judicial institution.
